We’ve always been true to our craft in creating amazing images. And we love to document the love between a couple- their love story in pictures is what we do best. In a document that talks about wedding trends for 2020, brides today are wanting documentary style photos. Images that show true color capturing real feelings. The “light and airy” or “dark and moody” Instagram filtered look is a trend that has been going on for over three years. Sure, there are some brides that still like that type of look however we like to capture images that show real and raw emotions. Why would you want to stage your engagement and wedding photos in the first place anyway?

It all starts with the connection the couple has with their photographer during the engagement shoot. We constantly allowing our couples to just be themselves by being a little playful with one another. Sometimes we capture reactions from the bride when we have the groom whisper something “personal” in her ear. That’s when we like to work that shutter button.

Another thing that will be popular for 2020 is the rise of editorial style photography. Couples are making bold fashion and style choices and want a more fashion/editorial stance. They’re looking for photographers that have a unique vision. And we’ll see photographers breaking traditional “photography rules“. Photos that capture moments, movements with some blur, or out of focus shots, interesting cropping are all types of editorial trends.

What’s out for 2020 in wedding photography are portraits that are too posed and perfect without any emotion. Many of these couples are gravitating to this type of ‘real’ look in their images. And what about those USB thumb drives that was such a big trend with personalized branding of the couple’s name? That’s totally out because of many laptops today, particularly Macbooks, no longer support these types of device ports. What replaces these little devices are beautiful, physical prints like acrylic wall-size prints and gorgeous photo albums with matching archivable storage boxes.

Today, couples want to relive their wedding day in other ways. The competition gets a little stiff in the wedding photography industry because of the hybrid photographer- the type of photographer that can shoot both photos and videos for their clients. This can cut costs for a couple so they wouldn’t have to hire a separate video crew. The film editing continues to be of a cinematic style with smooth, slow motion to music that evokes emotions in every way. They’re looking for a higher level of creativity with a variety of processes like tight shots to moving shots with an electronic gimbal or a manual camera stabilizer. In other words, they want their audience to move with the couple with tracking shots. And say goodbye to static shots and tired cuts. Also, gone are the days of personal messages from the couple’s guests.

It’s all about the most popular social media platform with millennials- Instagram. So couples like it when a short film is created for this format which creates all the buzz about their wedding day. Ultimately, video creators should be able to capture the big day from decorations to breathtaking shots that will make your couple teary-eyed every time they watch their wedding film. All of this will put some added pressure on the average wedding photographer.
